View at the top of Jingshan park

Jingshan Park, located in the heart of Beijing, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Forbidden City from its hilltop.

If you are already visiting the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park is the simplest add-on you can do right after. It is right behind the palace, the ticket is cheap, and the view from the top makes the whole Forbidden City feel more real.

Why I always recommend it after the Forbidden City

Most people tour the Forbidden City south to north. When you exit at the north gate, Jingshan Park is basically across the road. You can walk over in a few minutes and be on the hill fast.

The view is the main reason. From the top (Wanchun Pavilion), you look straight down over the golden roofs of the Forbidden City. It is one of the best “I get the scale now” moments in central Beijing.

What it costs and opening hours

This is the nice part. Normal entry is CNY 10 for adults.

Hours are seasonal:

  • Apr 1 to Oct 31: 06:00-21:00 (last entry 20:30)
  • Nov 1 to Mar 31: 06:30-20:00 (last entry 19:30)

The simple route

If you are coming from the Forbidden City, do this:

  • Exit at the north gate
  • Cross to Jingshan Park (any map app will show the closest entrance)
  • Walk straight toward the hill and go up to the top pavilion
  • Spend 10 to 20 minutes up there, then leave when you are done

Tickets

I simply bought the tickets at the gate, and had no problem with that at all.

The tea house inside the park

I actually ate inside the park at a tea house.

The food was fine. It was more about having a quiet place to sit down and rest after the Forbidden City.

Small heads-up though: you could only get tea, no soda. That surprised me. If you want something cold and sweet, grab it before you enter, or just wait until you are back outside.

Things I would do differently next time

I would bring a drink in with me, especially in warmer months. The hill is short, but Beijing sun can still hit hard.

And I would not stress about “doing the whole park”. The top viewpoint is the main event. Everything else is extra.

Conclusion

If you are already doing the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park is the easiest yes in Beijing. It is cheap, close, and the view ties the whole area together.

Go up, take in the rooftops from above, then move on. It is simple, and that is exactly why it work

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there food and drinks inside the park?
There are places to sit down and eat. I ate at a tea house inside the park and the food was fine, but it was tea-only when I was there. No soda. If you want a cold soft drink, bring one in or grab it outside first.
Is Jingshan Park worth it if I am already tired after the Forbidden City?
Yes. The hill is short, and you do not need to wander the whole park. Most people go in, walk straight up to the viewpoint, stay a bit, and leave. It is one of the highest payoff, lowest effort stops in central Beijing.
Can I visit Jingshan Park right after the Forbidden City without extra planning?
Yep. When you exit the Forbidden City from the north gate, Jingshan Park is basically across the road. You can just walk over and buy a ticket at the entrance.
