My experiences in China

Hi, I’m Magnus. When preparing for my trip to China, I kept running into the same problem: most guides either feel outdated, overly polished, or just not that helpful once you’re actually there.

So I started collecting the stuff I would tell a friend. What worked, what didn’t, what I wish I knew earlier, and the small details that make things easier on the ground.

That’s what this site is. Practical tips and experiences, written in plain language.

Below are some of my favourite experiences in China.

Magnus at Avatar Mountains

Avatar Mountains, Zhangjiajie

To me, Zhangjiajie is the most crazy place I have ever been to. The area has two major attractions: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (the Avatar mountains) and Tianmen Mountain. Both are simply breathtaking.

I spent a total of 3 days in Zhangjiajie. One day for Tianmen Mountain and two days for the Avatar mountains. Truly one of the greatest experiences in my life.

Oh, and did I mention that after you have climbed all the stairs at Tianmen Mountain, you are rewarded with a Burger King at the top?

Michelin Restaurant: Mi Xun Teahouse, Chengdu

Chengdu is in the Sichuan region, and one thing Sichuan is famous for is food. So I really wanted to try a Michelin restaurant while I was there, and Mi Xun Teahouse did not disappoint.

The restaurant is vegetarian-only, but the food is so good. And it’s very different from other things I tasted in China, even compared to the usual Sichuan dishes.

I can honestly recommend visiting this place if you’re in Chengdu.

The Great Wall of China (Jinshanling section), Beijing

Since I was little, I’ve always wanted to visit the Great Wall of China. There’s just something about it that feels special, and I honestly can’t really explain why.

I chose the Jinshanling section because I wanted a calmer experience, with fewer tourists. And as you can see in the photos, there were barely any people there. It was amazing.

I ended up spending almost the entire day hiking along the wall, and it was one of the most incredible travel days of my life.
